Why Contractors Should Care About This Tax Credit
If you’re thinking about upgrading your work trucks or vans, now’s the time to go electric. With the passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) on July 4th of this year, the deadline to qualify for the $7,500 tax credit has moved up – way up.
The original deadline was 2032. Now it’s September 30, 2025. That’s less than 60 days from now.
If you’re looking to reduce fuel costs, boost your brand image, and claim a major tax break, this is your window.
What’s the Credit?
- Buy an Electric or Fuel Cell Vehicle (EV or FCEV)
- You’ll get 30% of the purchase price, up to $7,500, refunded to you!
- Buy a Plug-in Hybrid Vehicle (PHEV)
- You’ll get 15% of the purchase price, up to $7,500, refunded to you!
- Confirm Eligibility with the Dealer
- The vehicle must meet certain requirements. Your dealer must provide a written “Time of Sale Report”. No Time of Sale Report, no credit.
- Purchase in Business Name
- Make sure you take title to the vehicle in your business name, not your personal name.
- Take Delivery Prior to September 30, 2025
- You must physically take delivery of the vehicle by this date – not just place an order.
